Day 1 – St Jean Pied de Port to Orisson
22nd April 2017
Departure time: 07:30
Arrival Time: 11:06
Distance: 8 kms
Cumulative Distance: 8 kms
Percentage Completed: 1%
Accommodation: Refuge Orisson
Weather: Clear, sunny day 18 degrees
Thoughts:
Debra – Words and pictures cannot do the view justice – much easier than I thought but still challenging
Mark – Cannot be captured in photos – a hearty stroll
Julia – Stunningly “magnifique” – slightly challenging but better than expected
Geoff – A vista that is hard to describe – quite doable at your own pace
Cindy – Indescribable in its beauty – the walk wasn’t bad
The walk from St Jean Pied de Port to Orisson was physically tough but enormously rewarding, in terms of both views and the satisfaction of completing a physical challenge. We stayed at Refuge Orisson which offered dormitory style accommodation and communal dining. We bunked down in a six bed dormitory, the five of us and a poor beleaguered Brazilian girl. We learnt that while we all love each other, dormitory living is not for us – thank god we have hotel rooms booked for the rest of the journey. For anybody undertaking the Camino we would certainly recommend staying at Orisson.
