Day 12 – Najéra to Santo Domingo de la Calzada

Date:  3 May 2017

Departure time: 07:20
Arrival Time: 13:00

Distance: 21 kms
Cumulative Distance: 217 kms
Percentage Completed: 27.8%
Accommodation: Parador de Santo Domingo Bernardo de Fresneda
Weather: clear, blue skies – 25 degrees
Debra – Beautiful walk through the grapevines – rolling hills went on forever
Mark – Beautiful walk that embodied the stereotypical Camino landscapes

Today was one of the nicest days walking yet. It was through vineyards initially, then through rolling fields of crops. The path passed through the village of Ciruéna which was like a ghost town which we understood was the result of a failed property development.

We are staying at the beautiful  Parador Santo Domingo Bernardo de Fresneda in Santo Domingo de la Calzada. While relatively expensive at €85 by Camino standards it is amazing value by Australian standards. The town itself is very pretty and welcoming and certainly one of our favourites thus far.

  1. Hi Cindy,
We are back from Japan. I am following your walk every day and loving the photos.
You all look fit and well.
Sam has torn the distal tendon insertion of his bicep muscle and was operated on and now has a frame on his arm. It will be weeks before he can do anything. This happened at work when he lost his balance on a platform.
Take care and lots of love.
    Jill and Rogxx
