Day 13 – Santo Domingo de la Calzada to Belorado

Day 13 – Santo Domingo de la Calzada to Belorado

Date: 4 May 2017

Departure time: 06:50
Arrival Time: 13:00
Distance: 22 kms
Cumulative Distance: 239 kms
Percentage Completed: 30.5%
Accommodation: Hotel A Santiago
Weather: Misty most of he day , cool 22 degrees
Thoughts:
Debra – Easy uninspiring walk along a national highway
Mark – Lovely to see misty fields early but boring in the second half along a motorway

Today was our earliest start yet, we got away before 7 am. The first half was reasonably pretty as we walked through green fields overlayed with a cover of mist. The second half was rather uninspiring walking beside a major road. At times it was hard to hear each other speak due to the traffic. Today was clearly the least interesting day of the Camino thus far.

We did however meet an inspiring pilgrim. Kerry, from Brisbane is 75 years old and is walking her eighth complete Camino Frances in the span of nine  years. Her pace was unbelievable and certainly something to aspire to.

We are staying at Hotel A Santiago in  Belorado which is rather a quaint combination of hotel and albergue – a far cry from yesterday’s lodgings.

Tomorrow, we are undertaking  what we think will be our longest single day distance away on the Camino – 31 kilometres.

  1. Great job, guys! How are the bodies holding up? Highways just help you appreciate the misty fields and wine even more. Remember, good comes of EVERYTHING!!

  2. Debby thanks for sharing your blog, all very inspiring & something I will put on my bucket- hey 75yrs isn’t a barrier.

  3. Ha, that’s my mum (Kerry)!! Amazing, right? Last time we went walking together I couldn’t keep up, and I was only in my 40s! Mum, stop making me feel bad! 😛
