Thoughts:
Debra – Walk and distance easier than first thought, some tough climbs
Mark – Pleasant strenuous walk through pine and oak  forests

Today was a day of contrasts. It started with a very pleasant walk through fields of crops. After about 12 kilometres we came across the small  town of Villafranca Montes de Oca, then climbed up through the forests of pine and oak to the small village of San Juan de Ortega. From there it was a 6 kilometre walk to Atapeurca where we spent the night. All up we did 30 kilometres but found it surprisingly easy. We must be getting fitter and stronger. It may be to do with the sangria we drink at the end of each day. We were fortunate in that we only experienced 10 minutes of rain but Julia and Geoff, who started out a little later in the day than us, copped about 2 hours of rain.

We stayed at Hotel Rural Papasol. It was located in a 200 year old stone building. The rooms were quaint with exposed beams and 2 foot thick stone walls. We dined in the hotel and had Menu del Dia which cost €12 for three courses including bread and wine.

Cindy’s foot is continuing to improve and she walked about half the distance today.
