Day 24 – Mansilla de las Mulas to León

Date: 15th May 2017

Departure time: 07:30
Arrival Time: 14:00
Distance: 19 kms
Cumulative Distance: 474 kms
Percentage Completed: 60.8%
Accommodation: Parador de Leon
Weather: Cloudy at times, warm 23 degrees
Thoughts:
Debra – Boring initially along the main road but interesting approaching León
Mark – Another day of  methodical walking

Today we we walked 19 kilometres into Leon. The walk itself was reasonably unremarkable, it mainly being through the outskirts of Leon. Cindy walked ahead today and her foot seems to be going much better.

We visited the Leon cathedral which  was notable for two reasons.  Firstly, the cathedral itself has the most beautiful stained glass. Secondly, there were crews setting up to film scenes from Game of Thrones in the cathedral.  We couldn’t quite work out if they were putting the final touches on season 7 or starting to film season 8. We also had an enjoyable time catching up with some Western Australian pilgrims, particularly Geoff and Jen who we have been in contact with since day one.

We are staying at the Parador de León which is beautiful. It is sure hard being a suffering pilgrim. Over dinner we met up with up some Americans whose daughter was thinking of doing the Camino. It actually felt nice to be a bit of an “expert”. We have a rest day in Leon tomorrow, when it will be time to attend to washing and purchasing needed items.
