Today was only a 12 kilometre walk for us as we decided to share a taxi with a Spanish pilgrim when we were sitting having coffee on the outskirts of León. Mark’s feet were hurting at the time after the epic 32.5 kilometres yesterday. Sharing the taxi was a good and bad idea. The good was that we saved €10 on the fare and saved Mark’s feet. The bad were that Debra left her RayBan’s in the taxi. Net deficit €148. In this case, the old maxim “the Camino will provide” applied to a local optical store. You can’t win them all. On the plus side, as we write this, we are sitting in the old city precincts of León enjoying a pizza.
The 12 kilometres we did walk today was somewhat momentous as it was the end of the meseta. Furthermore , the aliens who stole all the pilgrims and wildlife yesterday returned them with interest today. The walk itself can only be described as bland, with a beautiful sunrise and the pink and blue hues of the sky as the only highlights.
