Debra – Rainy boring walk – no redeeming features
Mark – Rain made a welcome relief from sheer boredom

The best thing about today was the rain. Believe it or not, slogging through puddles of mud was the highlight of the day. It distracted us from what was otherwise an extremely boring walk along a highway. One of our Camino books described today’s walk as a must do for masochists and that was pretty well correct. All the beautiful images you see of the Camino, while obviously true tend to disguise the fact that much of it is tedious travelling besides busy roads.

We are staying at a hotel tonight that would have Norman Bates salivating. There are no staff here and your key is left at the desk for you to pick up when you arrive. You pay for the accommodation at a bar just up the road. Having said that, the rooms are clean and comfortable.  The biggest downside is that there is no pilgrims dinner and the kitchen at the bar down the road doesn’t fire up until 20.30.  Because of that our early dinner consisted of a Jack Daniels/gin, a packet of Doritos, a slice of cake and a coffee. We are not hanging around for breakfast.  Don’t let the foregoing give you the impression that we are not enjoying ourselves – this really is a hoot.

  1. Hi, we are walking the Camino next April, you look like you are enjoying the adventure. Which we hope to do. Can you tell me the name of the hotel you stayed at, we are having a hard time finding a place after Leon. Thanks
