Day 26 – Rest Day – Léon
Date: 27 September, 2018
Today was a rest day in León. We did the the usual shopping and leisurely eating but, no laundry this time as the hotel had a wash and dry service for €9.
León is a beautiful city and we have very much enjoyed seeing some of the attractions and just walking around. The Cathedral is magnificent, and apparently its stained glass is some of the best in Europe. We did the ride on the tourist train around town and also walked down and saw the renovations they are doing to the Parador.
Much of the stay was dominated by catching up with pilgrims we had previously met and meeting a few new ones. Hence, we had a few glasses of wine, some tapas and shared some pizzas. The sad note to the day was saying goodbye to two English pilgrims, Julie and Frances, who have finished their current instalment at León.
Debra is going well physically, but Mark is still troubled by a few blisters. He bought a new pair of hiking sandals yesterday which will hopefully provide some cushioning for his sore feet.
Tomorrow we are off to Hospital de Orbigo, a 33 kilometre trek, most of which is through unappealing urban outskirts.

Leon is such a great city. Keep enjoying yourselves and look after your feet Mark. I wish that I was with you guys. Enjoy the rest of your walk.
I couldn’t keep up to you Brett. We are thoroughly enjoying ourselves.
Following you all the way. Brings back many memories. Sounds like you are having a wonderful time and meeting lots of fellow pilgrims from many places. Mark, hope the saddles help to take care of your feet. Really enjoying reading about your adventures. Take good care both of you…Carole
Thanks Carole. We are having a great time meeting new people and staying in different towns. I think I prefer walking in Spring, it is quite hot now and there are no wild flowers and it is very brown. But still having a ball.
