Day 29 – Astorga to Rabanal del Camino

Day 29 – Astorga to Rabanal del Camino

Date: 30 September 2018

Departure Time: 08:00 am
Arrival Time: 12:30 pm
Distance: 20.9 kms
Cumulative Distance: 558.5 kms
Percentage Completed: 60.43%
Accommodation:  Posada De Gaspar
Weather: Sunny, perfect day – 25 degrees

Today was a pleasant enough walk, without being remarkable. We did manage to walk through some quaint villages today and had a drink at the iconic Cowboy Bar in El Ganso. The most noticeable aspect was the ever rising elevation, and we are now starting to get into more mountainous country. Associated with this, whilst initially quite warm, we can certainly notice a drop in temperature this afternoon.

We are staying in the lovely village of Rabanal  del Camino. Like many small Spanish villages, the major industry appears to be supporting pilgrims with accommodation and food. We are staying at a beautiful little hostal  called Posada de  Gaspar. Our afternoon and evening has consisted of eating and drinking with other pilgrims.

Tomorrow is going to be a tough 26 kilometre walk to Molinaseca, although the temperature is predicted to be much lower than today (high of 22 degrees and a low of 4 degrees).

Sunrise looking back at Astorga. Notice the twin spires of the Cathedral.

    1. We hav certainly been blessed with the weather. Someone said today that Spain is in a very unusual pattern of prolongedfine weather across the country. Fortunate for us!
