Debra – Was a bit like Groundhog Day
Mark – Lovely country, a bit too much like the last few days
Today was our penultimate day on the Camino Frances. We are only 20 kilometres away from Santiago de Compostela. The walking was pleasant but a bit too similar to the previous few days. There was almost nothing remarkable about today. Whilst the number of pilgrims on the trail has definitely increased, there was still quite a number of periods in which we were alone.
We are staying at Pension a Solaina which is quite comfortable and at a fairly standard price of €45 for a double room with a private bathroom.
Our mixed feelings have only increased – there is that heightened juxtaposition of looking forward to the adventure coming to an end whilst feeling very sad that it is. We have all come to the conclusion that we are extremely privileged to have had the time, the resources and the good health to be able to undertake the 800 kilometres of the Camino Frances. Having said this, we are not taking the final 20 kilometres for granted!
