Debra – Lovely easy walk
Mark – Pleasant walking through small towns

Today was a pleasant walking day. The highlight was seeing the Knights Templar castle in Ponferrada. The rest of the day was spent walking through small towns and past small agricultural holdings. The downside of today was our brush with what we have termed “parachute pilgrims”.  These are groups of tourists who magically disgorge from buses as if they have parachuted into the trail. Whilst we are trying very hard not to be judgemental we are struggling a bit with that as they talk loudly, walk in large groups and generally spoil the ambience of the trail. We expect to encounter more and more of these as we get closer and closer to Santiago.

We had an interesting brush with locals who were dressed as Compañeros Templarios. Some pilgrims who walked in shortly after us told us they were given a guard of honour by these friendly folk.

We stayed at La Moncloa de San Lazaro which was a lovely vibrant/bar and throughly enjoyed out set menu del dia for €25 for 5 courses plus wine and coffee.
