Day 37 – Palas de Rei to Melide
Date: 28th May 2017
Departure time: 06:45
Arrival Time: 11:00
Distance: 15 kms
Cumulative Distance: 734 kms
Percentage Completed: 94%
Accommodation: Hotel Restaurante – Xaneiro
Weather: Cloudy, occasional showers, 18 degrees
Thoughts:
Debra – Same as yesterday, but the latter half less scenic
Mark – Short walk and kind of sweet
The walk today was a repeat of yesterday only shorter. Melide itself had no particularly exciting features. We happened across the weekly Sunday market that sold mainly clothes that seemed to harken back to a bygone era. Melide is somewhat famous for its delicacy of “pulpo” boiled octopus but none of us could bring ourselves to eat it.
We thought at this stage of the journey that there would be a greater number of pilgrims who had just started their journey in Sarria, (as this is the minimum distance requirement to Santiago to qualify for a compostela) and we had been told that this would be very annoying. However, while we have noticed many new faces on the trail, it hasn’t greatly changed the ambience. The trails have been relatively easy since Sarria and those starting there would get a false impression as to what the complete journey is like.
