Today we walked a short 15 kilometres to Melide. As the photos below attest, a very notable aspect of the day was the extremely large number of pilgrims on the trail. There were tour groups who walked the whole 15 kilometres, tour groups who got bussed half way, groups of school children who skipped and sang the whole way and the motley crew of us other pilgrims. The walk itself was pleasant but unremarkable. What we are finding interesting is that, up until a few days ago, based on last years experience, we had very good recollections of what each day was to bring. However, this last 100 kilometres is just a real blur to us as every day is almost identical to the previous and the charming Spanish towns, tapas, and interesting churches are well behind us. It all now seems fairly commercial. The town in which we are staying tonight, Melide, is almost totally devoid of charm once you cross a quaint bridge. The most interesting part of the afternoon was walking around the aisles of the supermarket looking for the best deals in bananas.
Tomorrow may throw a few showers our way, and our perfect run of weather may finally come to an end. However, it is once again only a short day and we understand that Arzúa may have some drying paint for us to watch (if not spoilt by inclement weather).
