Even though our Camino has ended, the sun still rose on Sunday morning and we awoke early to watch its spectacular colours. We watched the sunrise from the same spot that we watched the sun set the night before – being on a rocky outcrop that juts into the sea has its advantages.
We shared a cab with Deb and Chris back to Santiago and then retrieved our suitcases from the storage area to which they had been transported from St Jean Pied de Port so many weeks ago. It was so nice to be reunited with “normal” clothes. We spent the afternoon wandering around Santiago, and had final drinks with Deb and Chris who caught an overnight bus to Madrid.
On Monday we attended the pilgrim’s mass, and were fortunate enough to see the Botafumerio swing. We spent the remainder of the day souvenir shopping, walking the streets of the old town of Santiago and had our last pilgrim meal. We also watched another spectacular sunset.
Our camino has now come to a close. While this makes us very sad, we are at the same time very excited as we fly to England tomorrow where we will catch up with our two daughters. We are also very fortunate in that both of us have finished the Camino physically with nothing broken, busted, bruised or blistered.
We would like to thank all the fellow pilgrims who closely shared our journey with us. Also thanks to all of you who have taken the time to read this blog and send well wishes.
