Today was pretty much a slog up and down hills. There were three highlights of the day. The first was coming across a fiesta in Viana. We think it represented children’s day, even though it was a Monday, as so many children seemed to be out of school in the traditional red and white costume of Spain. The second give away that it was children’s day was the candy projectiles and fireworks. Pilgrims who stayed longer than us saw a mini “running of the bulls” through town (there were three of them). The second highlight was leaving Navarre and walking into Rioja country and seeing massive bunches of grapes on the vines. Last, but not least, was arriving in Logroño itself – it truly is a lovely city.
We spent a lovely, relaxing afternoon in the cathedral square having a few drinks with our British compatriates. We were going to go to Calle Laurel which is street famous for tapas but most of the cafes didn’t open until after 7:30 pm which was well after our bedtime.
We actually both have small blisters but they are very manageable at the moment.
