Just woken up after spending our first night in Pamplona. Yesterday’s train journey from Barcelona to Pamplona was very enjoyable and comfortable. Paid a little more for 1st class on the RENFE but the extra money spent was well worth it. We are staying at the Hostal Arriazu in the old town part of Pamplona, which is wonderfully located and very quaint. Last night, using the recommendations of the hotel , we did a “pintxos and wine” crawl. Fun times were had sampling the food and vino which was relatively inexpensive compared to Australia. For two glasses of vino tinto and two pintxos, the cost was about €7. This morning we are travelling by private van (Transporte Peregrinos) to St Jean Pied de Port, which is just over the Pyrenees in the south of France.
Everyone is in “good spirits” and looking forward to the days ahead. However, we were all feeling a little daunted after seeing a group of American pilgrims engaging in an exercise and warm up session at Barcelona station. These guys were bionic-like!
