We are currently in St Jean Pied de Port, a beautiful French town nestled at the base of the Pyrenees. This is the most common starting point for the Camino Frances. We are staying at the Hotel Itzalpea, whose rooms we find very spacious and comfortable. It is a very easy walking distance to the Pilgrims Office, restaurants, a Carrefour supermarket and the beautiful cobblestones of the old town. We would certainly recommend it for anyone heading this way. We have just wandered around the old Citadel which overlooks the town and offers some amazing views.
We arrived here yesterday – couldn’t post an update due to limited internet access, but this seems to have been rectified. The journey from Pamplona followed a very scenic and windy road through the Pyrenees. The transport option of Transporte Pelligrinos worked seamlessly. Everyone is having a good time, eating, drinking and taking umpteen photos. We have become selfie stick whores and hate ourselves for it. Cindy has been giving Mark lessons in the art of door posing.
Tomorrow, we begin the walk and gee those hills look big. We are hoping the weather continues to be beautiful one day and perfect the next.
